Charles Goodwin

Charles Edward Goodwin, of Vicksburg passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the age of 79. Charles “Chuck” was born on June 22, 1942 in Paris, IL. He was the son of Robert and Berniece (Ward) Goodwin. He graduated from Paris High School. After high school he became a System Analyst Programmer in the banking industry. He retired from First Source Bank. On July 2, 1982 in Muncie, IN he married Kathy Harding. Kathy learned early though that she ranked third in Chuck’s life behind fishing, and watching college basketball which he loved very much. Chuck was also very proud of his two children and was a lover of wildlife and his pet cats and dogs. Chuck will be remembered by his family as a jokester, storyteller, being very social, but most of all being a good husband, father, and grandfather. Charles Goodwin is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy; one daughter: Dawna Bird, of IN; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother: Larry (Carolyn) Goodwin, of IL. Charles is preceded in death by a son: Douglas Goodwin; and his parents: Robert and Berniece Goodwin. A graveside burial of Charles’ ashes will be held on Friday, December 17th at 2pm at the Boughton Cemetery in Pavilion Township on East S Ave, Scotts. While at www.mccowensecord.com please take time to sign Chuck’s guestbook, and/or share a memory with the family. I can still picture Chuck sitting in his pontoon boat helping my kids fish off the dock at the house on the lake. Him sitting there laughing as I ran kid to kid trying to help get a fish off a hook or unsnagging a line. I will certainly miss the weekly calls during basketball season to talk about who was the best college team. Finally, I wish all those in Heaven good luck if they bring up IU basketball and specifically any coach post Bob Knight. He was a valued mentor, but more important a great person and friend. I am one of many who will miss Chuck immensely. He was a dear friend and co-worker for many years. I met him during an interview many years ago. We had a lot in common at that time. We both worked in banking. We had both worked at a bank in Decatur, Il. We both loved basketball. We were both IU fans. We both loved fried chicken. After our retirements we stayed in touch and talked about basketball frequently. We usually got together about once a year to have a chicken dinner together with our wives Kathy and Carolyn who had to suffer through some of our old banking war stories. Chuck was a Great Person, Great Banker and Great Friend. I hope the fishing is good in heaven. Seems like it should be. We wish Kathy and his family the best and you are in our hearts and prayers at this time. Larry & Carolyn Gardner

39 Years, not 29.

This man has been the love of my life for 29 years. Through good times and bad we were always there for each other. He always had stories to tell and people loved talking with him. They said it would never last, but we proved them wrong. Rest in peace, my love, and go back to catching those big ones again.
