I was going to post memories of Mr. & Mrs. Kelly, too! While I didn't realize it then, it must have been a huge commitment to use his vacation time & find help for the horses, just so they could volunteer to cook, doctor, counsel, drive, supervise and minister to a bunch of teenagers on a cross country bike ride! What a sacrifice! May God richly bless you! Thank you for showing Christ's love to me & the rest of the PFMC youth! Kathy (Mills) Salow

There are SO many fun memories of the "mayor of 25th St". The one that stands out (that I will never forget) the most is when my dad (John) was hurt in a farm accident 40 years ago. While "Grandpa Smith" saw what was happening across the street & came running (and saved my dad's life), it was the compassion that both Al & Pat showed my family during this extremely difficult time. The "mayor" was there without having to even ask. For that Al, I will be forever grateful. Please give my dad (co-vice mayor as Dean Cooley was the other co-vice mayor) a huge huge for me. Rest in peace sweet sweet man.

I met Al about 15 years ago when my daughter began her interest in horses. During the next 15 years Al taught me everything I now know about horses and life and faith. He always answered the silliest horse questions I asked. I always enjoyed helping him at the farm when needed and will miss our conversations. I know he is home with the Lord . Pat we love you and you and the family are in our prayers. Jim and Renae Baumgart

When I was 5 years old, my family became members of the Kalamazoo Free Methodist Church where my parents met and became lifetime friends of Al and Pat. They frequently got together with Al & Pat and several other couples to play the card game "rook." The rook games are part of my earliest childhood memories! My mom babysat for a Scott when he was a baby and he will always be "Scottie" to our family! When I was in 2nd grade, pour families started the Portage Free Methodist Church. I remember Al's sweet parents, David and Erma who were faithful Christians and friends....and I remember Al's sister, Caril, because I thought she was just beautiful!!
