Andrew Joseph SmithGood natured, kind, and a blessing to many, Andrew Smith was a very special husband, father, son, and brother. Nearly everyone who was lucky enough to have the pleasure of knowing him found comfort in his genuine sincerity and loyal friendship. Gentle as well as easy-going, he would go out of his way for any family member or friend in need. Gone too soon, Andrew leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish lovingly in their hearts forever. Reflecting on the year 1987, it was a time that brought about disposable contacts, the music of Michael Jackson, and the popular television sitcom, Full House. With the computer age gaining momentum, Blair and Monica welcomed the arrival of their newborn son, Andrew Joseph on May 26th in Midland, Michigan. His birth brought much joy and happiness into their lives. Growing up, Andrew had a profound sense of adventure as well as a natural athletic ability. Known to be somewhat shy and well behaved as a young child, he usually warmed up to people in no time and then they had a hard time keeping him quiet! There wasn't any sport he wouldn't try and played nearly every sport except for tennis during his growing years. During his years as a high school teen, he favored hockey, basketball, football, soccer, baseball, as well as wrestling. Hard to believe he managed such a rigorous schedule, but nothing was going to stop him, not even his broken arm during one memorable football season! Sadly, he did have to end his love of playing hockey when there were too many scheduling conflicts. Andrew was equally skilled with his finances at a young age. Known to be quite thrifty, he once loaned his siblings some spending money on a family trip to Disney. Charging them interest on their small loan meant he returned back home with more money than he took with him in the first place! There was never a dull moment with Andrew around! When he found any time at all to relax, he treasured snuggling with the family pets. Introverted to some degree, Andrew had a strong connection with them over the years. Graduating with the Class of 2006 from Plainwell High School, Andrew set off to pursue many interests. He loved music, especially rock, rap, and country. He decided to move to Memphis, Tennessee in 2008 and began work as an electrician while living down there. His warm personality made it easy for him to make friends as he settled into the community. Not to be forgotten however was the meeting of the woman who would steal his heart forever, Megan Smithwick! Introduced by a mutual friend, her beautiful smile, long hair, and Southern charm attracted Andrew from their very first meeting. Although Andrew recalled a Cedar Point trip from his teens with his sister, Andrea where he rode the Corkscrew countless times and discovered his weak stomach, it didn't stop him from asking her out to a first date to the local carnival. Trying to impress Megan, he went on nearly every ride! Once again, Andrew survived but not without tossing a few cookies! The two of them shared a love of music, sports, as well as hanging out with family and friends. With a strong desire to settle down, the happy couple married on June 21, 2013. He and Megan were delighted to welcome their son, Luke, into the world on September 19, 2013. Luke was indeed the apple of Andrew's eye! He and Megan were attentive and engaging parents. They wanted nothing more than the very best for Luke. In addition to his sweet family, Andrew was also an avid fan of both college and professional sports. His Michigander blood ran thick with his favorite Detroit teams; the Tigers, the Lions, the Pistons, as well as the U of M Wolverines. He never missed an opportunity to watch a game and enjoy the company of his good friends over laughter and great food! Always one to look on the bright side, no matter how the season was going, Andrew always routed for his home team! Full of life, laughter, and a beautiful heart, Andrew leaves behind a wonderful reminder to live life to the fullest. Deeply saddened by his loss, may his loved ones be comforted in knowing that he loved each of them unconditionally over the years and may his lasting memories be etched onto their hearts forever.
