Bobby Jay “BJ” Gardner, 100, longtime resident of Marcellus, passed away peacefully at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton, on August 12, 2024. Bobby was born to Creston and Marie (Warner) Gardner on August 4, 1924.
Bobby attended Lawton High School. Next, he proudly served his country in The United States Navy during World War II, from 1942-1945. He married Norma Richardson on November 30, 1946. He retired from G.T.E. in February 1982, after 35 years of service. He was a Lifetime Member of the Marcellus V.F.W. Post 4054. He also served on the Marcellus Village Council and the Marcellus Fire Department.
BJ leaves behind a son, Kent (Amy) Gardner, of Dowagiac, two granddaughters, Christi (Derek) Wolgamood of Kalamazoo, MI and Valerie (Corbyn) Thorsen of Burien, WA, three great grandchildren, Madelyn Wolgamood, Landen and Mackenzie Thorsen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, his parents Creston and Marie, two sisters, Pauline (Marshall) Mohney and Genevieve (Jim) Wolff, and a brother, Richard (Barbara) Gardner.
To honor Bobby's wishes, cremation has taken place at Avink Funeral Home in Schoolcraft, MI. There will be no services. Private Burial will be at a later date at Bly Cemetery in Marcellus.
Memorial contributions in Bobby's memory can be directed to the Marcellus United Methodist Church.
