Brenda Laker

Brenda Marie Laker, age 62, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1964, the daughter of Harold and Jean (Werbinski) Laker.

Brenda graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1982 before pursuing her passion for helping others by earning her nursing degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She went on to enjoy a rewarding career as a Registered Nurse, dedicating herself to the care of her patients. Later, she shared her knowledge and experience as an instructor at the Grand Rapids Educational Center, where she helped prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Brenda was united in marriage to Mark Converse, and together they welcomed their beloved son, Phillip. Though the two later parted ways, the love she had for her son remained one of the greatest joys of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jean Laker.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her son, Phillip Converse; her brothers, Brent (Karen) Laker and Brian Laker; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services will be held at this time.

Brenda will be remembered for her caring heart, her dedication to helping others, and the lasting impact she made through both her nursing career and the students whose lives she touched.
