Carl Spencer

Carl Spencer, age 90, of Plainwell MI, passed away on April 22, 2024, at the VA medical facility.   He was born on July 17, 1933, to Clark and Doria (Bradshaw) Spencer.  

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sisters. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 38 years, Penny; his children: Kim (Ken) Wielinga, Jennifer (Nick) Liupakka, Brian (Jess) Carter, Allen Spencer and Tammy (Rick) Lyons-Stall as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 

He was a proud Marine who fought in the Korean war.  He was a three-time Purple Heart recipient.  

Carl was a man of many trades.  In civilian life, He worked as a truck driver and a craftsman. He loved to tinker and be crafty.  He built his houses, including his own, and when that was done, he built a doghouse that was just as sturdy as his own. He had a love for his many pets.   

A private burial is scheduled for the family.  A gathering will be held for all to celebrate his life on Monday, May 6 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Club Car Grill: 6225 West D Ave. Kalamazoo MI 49009.  Donations can be made in Carl's memory to the Allegan County Animal Shelter.
