Caryn Joan Zonyk, lovingly remembered as a beacon of joy and laughter, was born on November 22, 1951, in Vicksburg, Michigan. She passed away on August 23, 2024, in Wayland, Michigan, at the age of 72.
Caryn’s journey through life was marked by a devotion to her career and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones. After graduating from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1969 where she excelled academically, she was crowned Miss Vicksburg a couple years removed from school. Caryn continued her education at Michigan State University before transferring to Western Michigan University to earn her bachelor’s degree. Her professional path led her to ARCO, then to Seedman & Seedman, before she found her true calling as the Director of Finance with the Upjohn Company, now known as Pfizer. In recognition of her dedication and outstanding contributions, she was honored with the prestigious Upjohn Award, a testament to her hard work and commitment.
A devoted wife and mother, Caryn’s proudest accomplishment was her marriage to the love of her life, Dan Zonyk, which began on September 30, 1972. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their three children: Angela, Mike, and Michelle. Caryn’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she took immense pride in their pursuits and achievements.
Caryn was a woman of many passions and interests. As a devout Christian she attended service weekly, was involved in youth group leadership, and as a testament to her creative side she lead the puppet program as part of the teen and youth education and worship. Golf would be second on her list with one of her major accomplishments being a hole-in-one. She had a deep love for holidays, transforming her house into a magical place for family. Her joyful spirit shone through as she entertained friends and family, always eager to share the warmth of her hospitality. Caryn possessed a competitive streak, delighting in card games and board games, where she may make it heard if she won. Yet, amidst the exhilaration of games, she also cherished quiet moments spent floating on the lake, taking peaceful walks, or enjoying time with her beloved grandchildren. Caryn was also very proud of her United Methodist Church affiliation.
Caryn was characterized by her joyous personality, a great sense of humor, and with a touch of silliness that could brighten each day. Known for her caring nature, she was a source of unwavering support for those she loved, displaying strength and energy in all her endeavors. A sweet tooth defined her culinary inclinations, with a particular fondness for M&M's.
