Listen to Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Stephen Stader, age 74, passed away in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he had lived for many years. He was born on August 15, 1951, in Oakland, California, to Patricia and James Stader and spent most of his youth in Clayton, California. Chuck, known also by his family as Steve, graduated from University of California-Davis and proceeded to lead a successful career in pharmaceuticals, food science, and organic certification.

Chuck lived a life of curiosity and adventure with a deep love of cultural history and diversity. He traveled widely and was always eager to share stories from his journeys. One of his favorite places was Yosemite and he always lit up while retelling stories of his adventures there.

Chuck's eclectic taste and collection of music was unmatched and he took great joy in sharing it. He was an avid reader, a mountain biker, and found peace on long rides along the Kal-Haven Trail. Nature, stories, family, and experiences mattered more to him than possessions, and he lived accordingly.

Chuck was married to Anne Marie Stader for over 40 years until her passing in 2023. He was a devoted stepfather to Heather Summer and Jennifer Roberts, and a proud grandfather to Matthew Stratton, Leah Stratton, Anthony Summer, Nicholas Summer, and Sarah Summer, and a proud great-grandfather to Mia Stratton.

He is also survived by his sister Carole Hatch, his niece Jessica Campbell, and nephew Lucas Hatch.

Chuck passed away on January 10, 2026. A private celebration of life will be held in keeping with his spirit; simple, gentle, and rooted in nature.
