Christine Blakely

Christine Marie Blakely (Braginton), of Vicksburg passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born on March 27, 1947, in Vicksburg, MI. She was the daughter of Floyd and Eleanor (Peterson) Braginton. She pursued her education at Vicksburg Community Schools and proudly graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1965.

Christine led a remarkable life filled with compassion, generosity, and love. Starting her career as an inventory clerk with Checker Motor Company, she later dedicated herself full-time to being a foster parent. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of over 100 children whom she welcomed into her home with open arms and unconditional love.

Christine was known for her feisty yet selfless nature, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her family meant everything to her, and she exuded loyalty and a great sense of humor that brought joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In her leisure time, Christine enjoyed visiting Mackinaw City annually and had a deep affection for horses and alpacas. She actively participated in the Kalamazoo County 4H when her children were younger, showing her dedication to creating lasting memories with her loved ones.

Amongst all her accomplishments, one that stood out was the day she married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Blakely. They were married on May 17, 1973. Their union was a testament to their enduring bond and shared happiness, lasting nearly 51 years.

In honoring Christine's memory, let us remember her for the kindness she showed to others and the unwavering love she offered to those in need. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of love lives on in the hearts of many.

Christine is survived by her husband of 50+ years, Charles “Chuck”; eight children: Donna Blakely, of Vicksburg; Fred Oaks, of Portage; Aaron Oaks, of Battle Creek; Sara Allen, of KY; Bill Blakely, of Athens; Jason Blakely, of Monroe; Caitlin (Tim) O’Brien, of Schoolcraft; Cassandra Fredericks, of Vicksburg; and 15 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother: Ken Evensen, of Vicksburg and numerous foster children, nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be deeply missed. 

Christine was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Eleanor Braginton; siblings: Ray Braginton,  Doris Young, Nancy Williams, Lorna and Fred Ayers; sister-in-law: Letha “Lee" Evensen, daughter-in-law: Lori Blakely, and grandson: Kamren Blakely

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024, at 1pm at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11am until the time of the service.
