Constance (LaHuis) Shively, age 94, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ January 2, 2026. Connie was born April 2, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to John and Eva (Fairbanks) LaHuis. Connie was the oldest of 12 children in a full and active home. She married Roy Shively in January 1951 and shared over 60 years of marriage with him prior to his passing. She was a devoted caregiver to him during his prolonged illness. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time with family and friends, cook and ride bicycles. Connie was also an accomplished musician, playing the organ for over 50 years at the First Baptist Church in Plainwell. One of her favorite hymns expresses her love for her Savior: “Wonderful grace of Jesus, Greater than all my sin, How shall my tongue describe it, Where shall its praise begin? Taking away my burden, Setting my spirit free, For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.”
Connie was preceded in death by her husband Roy; her parents John and Eva LaHuis; daughter Darlene Kohn; brothers Jim, Philip, Tim, David and Daniel; sisters Grace Stenberg, Martha Briggs and Esther Kadar. She is loving remembered by children Leroy (Darlene) Shively and Charlene (Jon) Plotner; brothers Paul (Ruth), John (Pam); sister Bernice (Don) Bolis; son-in-law Tom Kohn; sister-in-law Jackie LaHuis; grandchildren Lindsay (Bryan) Williams, Allison (Jesse) Hornback. Selah Plotner and Samara Plotner; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff from Edison Christian Living Services and Faith Hospice for their wonderful and loving care provided to Connie. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Edison Christian Life Services or Faith Hospice. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday March 27, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a service following at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
