Deborah "Deb" Shannon

Deborah I. Shannon, age 66, of Schoolcraft, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2021. Deb was born on June 11, 1955, to Duane & Evelyn (Yonokvitz) Soderquist. Deb is survived by her husband of 47 years, Rick; her children: Sarah (Mike) Zavoral, Joseph (Jolene) Shannon and Mary (Richard) Ditson; 14 grandchildren: Emily (Travis), Avery, Kaelen, Addison, Evelyn, Griffen, Gage, Garret, Grey, Aislyn and Olivia, Sophia, Evangeline and Daniel; her father Duane; her brothers: David Soderquist and Richard Soderquist as well as several nieces and nephews. Deb was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn, her brother Wayne Soderquist and son Daniel. Deb was a faithful follower of Jesus. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to read. She has bookcases full of books and would use books to minister to people. She was a very charitable, humble woman who gave without expecting anything in return. She will be missed. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home; 409 S Main Street in Vicksburg. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 at the same location. Memorial donations can be to the Catholic Charities of Kalamazoo. While visiting Deb’s webpage at www.mccowensecord.com please sign the guestbook by lighting a candle, and/or sharing a memory with the family.

I had the privilege of meeting and working with Deb at Catholic Charities. As the Volunteer Coordinator for the agency, I was so appreciative of all the behind the scenes support she provided and always looked forward to seeing her and co-volunteer/friend Cheryl. Deb had one of the most loving and gentle hearts! Even her voice was soothing. My husband had serious health issues and passed away last October. I have a note on my bulletin board from Deb, encouraging me to keep the faith even in very difficult times; I see it every morning and think of her. I will keep you in my prayers as you mourn and mend your broken hearts. Deb was a beautiful soul.
