Donna Somers of Vicksburg, formerly of Montrose, died Monday, February 16, 2026.
On the morning of Monday, February 16th, 2026, Donna passed peacefully with sunshine streaming through her window and birds chirping outside. She was born in Fife Lake, Michigan, on April 28, 1943, to the late Donald and Alverna (Marvin) Nolff. Donna was raised in Fife Lake, Michigan, on "The Forty," land owned by the Nolff Family. Donna and her twin brother, Donald "Ducky", grew up in a large family with 13 brothers and sisters. Her older brother, Raymond, always had a special place in her heart because he bought her her first doll, a cherished possession for many years. The Nolff Family eventually moved to Flint, Michigan, where General Motors provided a secure income for this large family.
On August 7, 1965, Donna married Marvin Somers at the Montrose United Methodist Church. They honeymooned in the Upper Peninsula at Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Fallsn They enjoyed 55 years of marriage, living on the Somers family property in Montrose
Donna enjoyed the simple joys of life and never asked for anything. She loved breakfast and her morning coffee. She spent most of her life caring for others. She was employed by Mary James Nursing Home in Montrose for 22 years, a job she loved with a wonderful team of colleagues. She also enjoyed working for Montrose Community Schools as a bus aide, serving students who needed some extra love and care. Then she transitioned to caring for others in their homes and built quite a reputation for herself. Donna was highly sought after in the Montrose and New Lothrop communities. People knew that she was the person to contact if they needed assistance with an aging family member. She cared for numerous people over the years and worked until the age of 75. She was known for her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication. She brought peace, dignity, and respect into the homes of the families she served.
Donna's biggest priority was being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always put their needs first and loved taking them back-to-school shopping. She enjoyed hearing stories about school, various sports practices, and their friends. Donna had the art of sitting and chatting with people; no one was a stranger for long! She had a sharp mind, often recalling family history that others had forgotten. She was a selfless person, a quiet giver who filled our lives with warmth, comfort, and love. She never wanted to be a burden.
The last several years of her life, she lived in Vicksburg with her daughter and son-in-law. The congregation of St. Martin Catholic Church in Vicksburg welcomed Donna when she joined their congregation in bible studies and other gatherings. She loved listening to her son-in-law announce the WMU Broncos football games on the Bronco Media Network. Donna enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Indian Lake.
