Duane Arthur Avard

Duane A. Avard, a pillar of strength and love, entered this world on April 30, 1933, and departed on August 5, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born to Harold and Ethel Avard, Duane's journey through life was one of determination and purpose. Educated at Kalamazoo Central School, he embodied a commitment to learning that would extend far beyond the classroom.

On June 12, 1953, he joined hands in matrimony with the love of his life, Betty June Brosseau, embarking on a journey of shared dreams and enduring companionship.

Duane's professional path led him to Durametallic, where he devoted his talents and skills until the day he retired, leaving behind a testament of hard work and dedication that inspired those around him.

In the early years of their marriage, Duane and June cultivated a shared passion for horses, spending cherished moments in Portage, MI, where their love for these majestic creatures blossomed. Their bond only deepened when they established their roots in Texas Township, MI, in 1962, acquiring a farm that would become the backdrop for countless memories.

As a couple, they explored life's varied horizons, transitioning from horse enthusiasts to seasoned cattle raisers, particularly with their beloved polled Hereford cattle. The farm was more than land and livestock; it was a canvas for their unity and the embodiment of their dreams.

The Avard's story extended beyond Michigan's borders, as they embarked on annual journeys to Florida starting in the 1980s. The allure of Pine Island and the Gulf of Mexico captivated Duane's heart, and he found solace in the gentle rhythm of fishing. This cherished chapter spanned over four decades until the relentless hurricane Ian swept through in October 2022, reshaping their lives.

Duane's legacy is a testament of love, family, and strength. He is survived by his devoted wife June Avard, a partnership that exemplified unwavering commitment; his daughters Pam (Brian) Hannar and Sherry Logan, who carry forward the spirit of resilience he instilled in them; and his brothers David and Louis Avard.

As we bid farewell to Duane A. Avard, let us remember his boundless love for his family, his steadfastness in the face of challenges, and his unyielding spirit. His presence may have passed from this earthly realm, but his legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created.
