CHARKOWSKI, Mr. Earl Kalamazoo Went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2011, with his loving family by his side. Earl was born in Kalamazoo on March 24, 1921, the son of the late, Frank and Agnes (Snow) Charkowski. Earl was a kind and loving man who was proud of his family, his community and his country. He served in the Army during WWII, and returned to Kalamazoo after being honorably discharged. On June 6, 1942, he married the love of his life, his wife Helen (Habek) Charkowski who survives. Earl was a hard worker who was employed as a brakeman for the railroad industry until his retirement. Earl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a strong faith and was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church in Kalamazoo. He was a selfless man, who gave freely of his time and energy. He was a trustworthy and dependable volunteer at Borgess Hospital and surrounding nursing homes. He was also active in the Knights Of Columbus 1616, and V.F.W. Post 827. He was athletic and enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was a participant for the last 20 years in the Borgess Run For Health. He will be dearly missed by those who's lives he touched. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a son David "Chico" (Katie) Charkowski; three siblings, Minnie Boehmer, of New Jersey, Clarence "Bo Jack" (Vi) Charkowski, of Florida, Allaine Roseboom, of Kalamazoo; and many nieces, nephews, and great friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary's Church, 929 Charlotte Ave. Kalamazoo, MI.
