Eugene Lincoln "Gene" Sanders Jr., age 69, passed away on February 16, 2026.
Born on November 1, 1956, in Elkhart, Indiana, Gene was the son of Eugene Sanders Sr. and Carol (Sanders) Newman. He was the second of eight children, growing up surrounded by the lively bond of a large family.
On November 8, 2006, Gene married the love of his life, Rosalie Slentz. Together they shared forty-three years of partnership, devotion, and memories. Rosalie was not only his wife but his constant companion and greatest supporter.
Gene spent over twenty-five years working as an over-the-road truck driver, a career that suited his independent spirit and strong work ethic. He took pride in the miles he traveled and the dedication he showed to his work.
Outside of his career, Gene found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved camping and mushroom hunting, and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and trapping, especially raccoon, gopher, and beaver. Nature brought him peace, and many cherished memories were made in the woods and around the campfire.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Sanders Sr.; his mother and stepfather, Carol and Bill Newman; and his brothers, Gary Sanders, Greg Sanders, and David Sanders.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife and partner of forty-three years, Rosalie Sanders; his siblings, Jim (Connie) Sanders, Donna Sanders, Leona (Steve) Ames, and Kenneth "Butch" Sanders; along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
In accordance with Gene's wishes, cremation has taken place. A hog roast will be held as a Celebration of Gene's life at The Farm on June 27, 2026. Please check back for additional details as they become available. Donations in Gene's memory may be made to the family, c/o Rosalie Sanders.
Gene will be remembered for his quiet strength, love of the outdoors, and the deep devotion he had for those closest to him.
