With hearts broken and lives forever changed, we share the passing of Exzonia Smetana, who left this world far too soon on August 17, 2025, at just 19 years old. She was born on December 17, 2005, a day that marked the beginning of a beautiful and vibrant life.
Exzonia grew up with an unstoppable energy and a love for life that touched everyone who knew her. Whether she was playing her favorite sport—volleyball—competing in soccer or basketball, snowboarding down a hill, or soaking up the sun at the beach, she lived with passion and joy. She had a natural talent for everything she set her mind to—academics, athletics, writing, and more
At the time of her passing, Exzonia was beginning her second year at Grand Valley State University, already achieving junior standing with her many credits. A gifted mind, she was pursuing a degree in mathematics and had a bright future ahead, filled with promise and possibility.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother Tanya Carr and stepfather Michael Carr.
Exzonia leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever: her father Aaron Smetana, stepmother Stephanie Patrick, siblings Nathan Smetana, Kaylee (Caleb) Oswalt, Gracie, Lexi, Aaron, and Ezra, and her treasured niece Freya. She is also deeply missed by her grandparents Pat Smetana (Dale Lynch), Roxann (Scott) Hughes, Stacy and Brian Franklin, and Jean Prescott, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Exzonia loved her siblings fiercely and shared countless adventures with her friends. She was always on the move, never content to stay in one place, and found her greatest joy outdoors and in the company of those she loved. Her spirit was bright, her laughter contagious, and her determination inspiring.
Though her time here was far too short, her impact was immeasurable. Exzonia leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and brilliance that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
