Francesca Alba Maria Caramagno
Born April 23, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York
Died March 3, 2023, Otsego, MI
Our mother passed away on March 3, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by those she loved. Until very near the end, she was able and determined to make art, travel and cook.
Like so many women of her generation, higher education was on the back burner to marriage and motherhood. But when her youngest began school, she embarked on a college level learning adventure, eventually earning her PhD in Humanistic Psychology. She spent many years as a Speech Therapist and Counselor in schools in the US and Germany.
She was a fierce woman before anyone knew what that described. Fierce in her independence, her intelligence, and her beliefs, she was a voracious reader who enjoyed doing puzzles and the New York Times Sunday Crossword. She loved making art of all kinds, cooking wonderful meals, and music, especially opera and Frank Sinatra. Wherever she lived, she always began a garden and attended to it devotedly. Travel was a lifelong passion; it engaged her keen mind and intense curiosity about other cultures.
Deeply spiritual, she was overjoyed at the prospect of reuniting with loved ones that had gone before. Her parents, Rose and Sebastian, and her brother Dominic Caramagno, her grandson Brendan Beermann, and her nephew Michael Caramagno.
She left behind, to miss her and celebrate her life her and celebrate her life thru her three children: Ruth Krugler (Ron), of New Orleans, LA, John Beermann (Kat) of Jacksonville, FL, and Elizabeth Lincoln (Brett) of Otsego, MI. Seven grandchildren: Erin Rose (Greg), Alexandra (Michael), Michael, Sean, Lauren (Jon), Kyle and Meredith. As a bonus for a well lived life, she was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Isabella, William, Avery, Anna, Xander, James, and Andrew.
She will be in our hearts as we carry on this life she embraced with such gusto and we are secure in the knowledge she will be there to greet us when time and grace allow.
A memorial service will be held this summer in Jacksonville, FL. If you are inspired to make a memorial donation, please consider Unity.org, or Ameliatreeconservancy.org. One was her spiritual home and the other serves her love for all growing things.
