Frederick Hubbell died peacefully on November 10, 2022. Born August 26, 1933, to Dr. & Mrs Reader Hubbell of Bronson Blvd, Fred enjoyed horseback riding on his family's farm and selling eggs from the chickens he raised. Fred attended Northwestern University after completing school in Kalamazoo. Upon graduation, Fred joined the US Army. On a weekend pass before being stationed in Yokohama, Japan, Fred married his sweetheart, Constance Leaske. Connie, a nurse, followed him to Japan and worked at the army base hospital. During their stay in Japan, the couple's first child, Leslie, was born at the base. Upon returning stateside, Fred entered the University of Michigan Law School. After completing law school, the family, now including a second daughter, Lynda, moved to Petosky, MI. After five years, the family, now with the addition of two sons, Andrew and John, returned to Kalamazoo. Fred began his career in Kalamazoo as a Trust Officer for the American National Bank. Later, Fred entered the law firm of Troff, Lilly, Piatt, File, & Doyle, where he became a partner. Fred and his friends, Jim Ryan and Dan Jamieson, then started their own firm where they practiced for many years. Fred and Connie Hubbell have always been active in the Kalamazoo community. Together, they volunteered and served on the board of the Salvation Army. Fred's children remember well ringing the bell with their father for the annual Christmas fundraiser. He served on the Board of Directors of Hospice and the Kalamazoo Boys & Girls Club and was active in Rotary. Fred also acted for many years as a court-appointed advocate for youth and children. Fred and Connie enjoyed travelling together. After many early years camping with their young children, they enjoyed trips to Europe and throughout the US. Fred enjoyed his family above all else. He enjoyed gathering in the summer at Pine Lake in Plainwell with his children and grandchildren and visiting them in California, Pennsylvania, and Ireland throughout the year. He is remembered by all of his family as a singer of hymns and a whistler of unparalleled enthusiasm. Connie and Fred were reunited on December 10, 2025, after her passing. Fred is deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his children, Leslie, Lynda, Andrew, and John; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Gail.
