Gloria Mae Shook joined Heaven’s choir on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on December 16, 1947, in Plainwell, Michigan, to Frank and Georgia (Ransbottom) Shook.

At the age of 18, Gloria enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where she served for 4 years, working her way up to Personnelman Second Class. After finishing her duties in the Navy, Gloria began her career working for the State of Michigan. It was during her career that she met her wife, Alice “Al” Fowler, with whom she had spent 38 wonderful years.

Gloria was known for her unyielding love and support toward those around her, her unrelenting dedication toward every job and project she took on, and her unflinching attitude when it came to defending what she believed in.

Gloria’s passions and hobbies included taking long road-trips with loved ones, restoring furniture and other woodworking projects, singing in the Martin United Methodist Church choir, reading, enjoying the outdoors, caring for her pets, and hosting the annual cousin’s party for as long as she was able.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Max Leroy Shook, her sister-in-law Pegg Shook, and her brother-in-law Leroy Johnson.

She is cherished by her wife Alice “Al” Shook, her brother Tom (Margaret) Shook, her brother John (Lori) Shook, her sister Susannah Johnson, her niece Frankie (Kevin) McConnaughey, and all her nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very much.
