Harvey Kuiper

It is with profound sadness family and friends announce the untimely departure of our dear Harvey D. Kuiper, affectionately known as "Harv" to his friends and family, passed away Monday January 22, 2024 at home surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Harvey was born in Kalamazoo Michigan the sixth child of Edward Kuiper and Leora Kuiper. He grew up in Galesburg, Michigan attending Galesburg Augusta Schools where he enjoyed playing sports, basketball being his favorite and being on the high school football team that won State Championship two years in a row. He attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Western Michigan University. While attending school Harv began his career at The Upjohn Company where he created many lifelong friendships. Harv's quick wit, humor and remarkable memory were characteristics everyone who knew him enjoyed.

Harv had many interests but the one he most enjoyed was renovating houses and selling/buying cars. If you were in need of a car he was quick to help you look or sell you one of his. He was a multi craftsman with plumbing, electric and construction skills which made his flipping houses possible and darn enjoyable. He was always lending a hand to help someone out. Whenever he saw someone on the side of the road he didn't hesitate to stop to lend a helping hand. His compassionate care for others found him volunteering in many organizations over the years. His compassion to be of support to others in their time of need was his most treasured trait.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Harvey. He loved time with his church, family and friends, spending his winters in Florida, golfing, working on the lake property, especially watching his grandsons play sports and being there when someone needed a helping hand. Rest well our sweet Harvey/Papa, your gentle and caring spirit continues to inspire all who had the honor of knowing you. You were greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Harvey is survived by his devoted wife Susan, loving and supportive children: Nathan (Megan) Kuiper, Chad (Julie) Lucas, Troy(Danielle) Lucas, his precious grandchildren Campbell Kuiper, Berkley Kuiper, Creighton Kuiper, Ty Lucas, Cole Lucas, and love added grandchildren Chelsea and Austin Kristy, Cody Maxam, Sean, Caitlin and Maddie Rose, and Emily (Braden Raver) Rose who all loved and adored him.

Harvey is predeceased by his parents and dear sister Sharon Philipps.

A celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date.
