James Delbert Barrett

After a long battle with dementia, he passed on June 23, 2021. Jim was born on September 27, 1938, to Delbert J. and Mary A. (Clancy) Barrett in Kalamazoo, MI. Jim attended St. A Elementary where he met lifelong friend Roger Northrup. He attended Milwood Junior High and graduated from Portage High School in 1956. In February 1960, he married Sharon Golyar and had three children. Jim retired after 36 years with the Upjohn Company. In October 1989, he married Phyllis Norris. They had 32 years of marriage together. Jim is proceeded in death by his parents: Delbert and Mary Barrett; sister: Eleanor; brothers: Jack, Bob Pat, Dennis, Gerry and special friend Ed Hageman. He is survived by his wife: Phyllis; children: Phillip (Deb) of Scotts, Monica (Paul) of Delton, and Chantal (Jack) of G.P. Farms; brother: Nick; four stepchildren: Julie (Gary), Jerry, Shelley (Lou), and Steve. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, baseball, and bowling. In accordance with the family’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Mass will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 W Avenue E, Vicksburg, MI 49097 on Friday, July 2, 2021 with a time of visiting from 10:00-11:00a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Vicksburg Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Rose Arbor Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
