James Edward Fess

James Edward Fess, Jr. of Scotts, MI passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Jim was born on November 21, 1955 in Vicksburg, MI. He was the son of James Sr. and Kathryn Jean (Jennings) Fess. Jim graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1974 where he participated in football, track, basketball, theatre, and choir. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy. When he returned from serving his country, he met the love of his life, Sharon Darling and they were married in 1980 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Together they raised two sons Robert and Matthew. Jim retired in 2012 after 30+ years at Upjohn/Pfizer. He was a supporting and caring father, loyal and loving husband and possessed a sense of humor that would make anyone who knew him laugh. He had tons of common sense, was honest, and he was a hardworking man. Jim had the natural ability for building things “correctly” and was always there for his sons to help them with their various projects. During his life, he enjoyed ice fishing, playing softball and bowling in the Upjohn League. He was a devoted Detroit Lions fan, and enjoyed driving his Barracuda to various car shows. On the weekends he enjoyed going to the race track with his good friend Virgil Hopwood. He and his wife loved to travel and take spur of the moment overnight trips to Michigan casinos. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, one sister, one brother and his special dog, Rufus. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon, and their two sons Robert Fess of Scotts, MI and Matthew (Brittney) Fess of Vicksburg, MI, and his beautiful granddaughter, Clara Marie Fess, and his cat Fluffs. Also surviving is his father, James Sr. (Diana) Fess of Vicksburg, MI. His sisters, Pat, Nancy, Melanie, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no memorial service at this time. I was Jim's sister Pat. I remember going to their house they built on Sunset Lake over by the bowling alley of course. I got to know Jim from his sister. I went to one of the drag races at Martin with Jim. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Hold on to all the fun, silly memories. He sure was a card. Cherish all of those memories. I know he took a piece of his heart with all of you. Remember, he left a piece of his with each of you. May God give you guidance through this difficult time. Matt, I send you hugs and love during this time. The time you spent at our house when you were dating Breana. You were always a hoot, just like your Dad. XOXO RIP Jim

Jim...my best friend and loving husband, So, so wish you were physically here with me, your two "Gomers", beautiful granddaughter "Pickles" to celebrate the day of your birth. Always thinking of you and how you would have spoiled Clara. She would have delighted in your antics (probably cake eating messes), funny faces, your beautiful big blue eyes teasing her and your overall funny, uplifting personality. Of course, her daddy has all your qualities and her mother and uncle Robbie will surely keep her in line with their common sense! Every aspect of our lives will never be as "bright" without your presence. Missing you and loving you always, Shar :birthday:

Sharon, Rob & Matt ... I'm sorry & surprised to see that Jim has passed away (saw the notice in the South County Newspaper). He always had a smile on his face & that little bit of "spunk" in his voice. It was fun to see how he & Ruffus bonded while playing in Rob's yard. I could tell he had a strong love for his family just by the tone in his voice. Mary Milbeck (Rob's neighbor)

Sharon and Family, my heart is broken . Jim was a very dear friend. We had a lot of great times together. People said we looked a lot alike. We always called each other bro . It was in my Pontiac that Jim ran his first drag race at Martin. He came back to the pits , got out of the car with a bloody right hand. He had missed a gear and his hand slammed into the dash board. I teased him the rest of his life for that. Carla and I send our condolences for your loss. See you in Heaven Jim. Sincerely, Rob and Carla Bland
