James Fletcher

James "Jim" Howard Fletcher was born 11/06/1934 to James and Nina (Upson) Fletcher in Kalamazoo, MI. Jim graduated from Kalamazoo Central where he excelled in baseball, football, and basketball. Trained by his father on boxing, he became a professional boxer, along with his brothers. They were known as “The Fighting Fletcher Brothers of Kalamazoo”. He was awarded the Golden Gloves 142 weight class state boxing champ in 1952. Jim enjoyed coaching Rocket Football and Little league. He took pride in coaching his son and nephews, among others. Those who were coached by him will remember his athletic expertise, kindness, generosity, and the way he built their confidence in playing sports. One of Jim’s greatest joys was attending his son’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s games. He was also a Parchment Panthers fan and attended many of their games with his son.

Jim was employed first at Sutherland KVP Brown Co., then at Upjohn Co. as a forklift driver, where he retired.

James married the love of his life Marjorie Dull and married in 1957, who preceded him in death in 2012. Also preceding him in death was his daughter Sandra in 2009, and his brothers William, Richard, Robert, and sister Marilyn Ahlberg. Surviving is his son Doug (Ramona), grandson Douglas (Hillary), granddaughter Brittney (Brayton), great grandchildren Annabelle and James. Sister-in-law Jackie and Irene Fletcher.

Jim will be missed by his family and friends for his kind heart, easy going personality and keen sense of humor.
