Jane Lee (Miller) Mason (1942-2026) passed away on September 20, 2026, at the age of 84. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan in 1942 to Ernest Andrew Miller and Florence Edna (Waits) Miller. Jane Mason was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her life was filled with family, laughter, and she brought a compassionate heart to every person she met. Jane was faithful in her love for God and her church.

Jane enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, euchre, cribbage, and really just about any game the family happened to be playing. She enjoyed the competition, but even more, she loved the time spent together around the table, on the course, or wherever family and friends gathered. Bud and Jane treasured the time they spent with their close friends, many of whom became more like extended family over the years. Together they shared countless trips, picnics, adventures, and plenty of laughter creating memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Jane enjoyed her career as an administrative assistant at the Kalamazoo law firm of Craig and Craig. She later worked at Upjohn before completing her career at Weyerhaeuser, where she retired after many years of dedicated service. 

One of Jane’s greatest stories began when she met her future husband, Bud “Earl” Richard Mason, in driver’s training class. Bud asked Jane if he could borrow a pencil. Apparently, Jane decided anyone who showed up to driver’s training without a pencil probably needed someone to look after him. That borrowed pencil turned out to be a pretty good investment! She did a wonderful job of looking after him over the years. Although, depending on who you asked, Bud may have claimed he required very little supervision. Jane knew better.

Jane and Bud married in 1963 and shared 55 years of marriage together before Bud’s passing on August 21, 2018. She is overjoyed to be reunited with him, continuing their love story. Together they built a life centered around family and were blessed with three children: Mike, Mark, and Julie.

In the Mason family, love has always had its own language, sarcasm. If you were being teased or found yourself the butt of the joke, you knew you were loved. And boy, was Jane loved. Of course, she may not have always known she was being teased, which made the laughter and memories even better.

Jane’s greatest joy was her family. She was blessed with six Grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She treasured the time spent with them and the laughter, stories, games, and memories they shared. All who had the pleasure to know Jane were blessed, as she had a heart of gold.

Jane is survived by her children, Michael R. (Natalie) Mason, Mark A. (Linda) Mason, and Julie L. (Britt) Tasker; her sister, Martha Essebaggers; her grandchildren, Zachary, Adam, Emma, Sean, Madelynn, and Mason; and her great-grandchild, Bentley as well as several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud “Earl” Richard Mason; her parents, Ernest and Florence Miller, and her sister Patricia Forsberg.

Jane will be remembered for her love of family, devotion to God, compassion for others, sense of humor, competitive spirit, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her family will remember her every time they gather around a table, deal a hand of cards, share a sarcastic comment, or make someone they love the butt of a joke.

And somewhere, we’d like to think Bud still has that pencil, although after 55 years, Jane may finally be getting it back.

In honor of Jane’s charitable spirit there are many organizations to choose from if you wish. Memorials in Jane’s memory may be directed to the Ministry with Community, Loaves and Fishes, Salvation Army, Leader Dogs For The Blind, Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries, Meals On Wheels, Blood Cancer United, Special Olympics.

A visitation will be held on Thursday October 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Third Christian Reformed Church; 2400 Winchell Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. This will be followed by a celebration of life services at 11:00 at the same location.
