Janet R. Blough, of Vicksburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on November 14, 1941, in Elkhart, IN. She was the daughter of Winfield and Ardith (Buswell) Hollander. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated community member.
Janet graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School with the Class of 1959. She was a member of both the Kalamazoo Central Marching Band and the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony. She continued her academic journey at Hope College. Janet was a member of Hope College’s Symphonette It was while at Hope that she met the love of her life, Michael Blough.
She and Michael were united in marriage on June 8, 1963, in a ceremony at the 2nd Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, marking the beginning of a remarkable 62-year partnership characterized by mutual love and respect. Throughout her life, Janet held various positions, but her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother were her most cherished.
Her commitment to family was evident in everything she did. Janet's love for cooking and baking was legendary, and she took immense joy in preparing family dinners and hosting large gatherings, where her selfless and generous nature shone brightly. She created a warm and loving home that served as a haven for her loved ones, fostering bonds that will endure through generations.
In addition to her family responsibilities, Janet made significant contributions to her community. She worked at the Vicksburg Library, encouraging a love of reading and learning, and served as the office manager at Lakeland Reformed Church, helping to organize church activities and support her congregation.
Described as outgoing and compassionate, Janet's personality drew people in and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her ability to connect with others was one of her greatest gifts, and she will be remembered for her unwavering support, her kindness, and the bright light she brought into the lives of those around her.
Her legacy lives on through her family, who will forever cherish the memories of her selflessness, her delicious meals, and the love that filled their home. Janet R. Blough will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the beautiful life she led and the profound impact she had on her family and community.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Winfield and Ardith Hollander.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years: Michael; three children: David (Nena) Blough, of Scotts; Ken (Sheri) Blough, of Mendon; Ruth (Eric) Cowles, of Scotts; eight grandchildren: Renele DelaTorre, Reinalyn Wells, Rachel (Sam) Jansen, Jennie Blough, Zoe Blough, Jed Blough, Nancy Cowles, and Katie Cowles; and six great grandchildren: Alexus, AvaLee, Mars, Miley, Jaelon, and Vivian. She is also survived by her siblings: John Hollander, of WA; and Edna TerMolen, of IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2pm at Lakeland Reformed Church, 10442 South Sprinkle Road, Vicksburg, MI. The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 1pm.
