Janet "Jan" June (Meadows) Bresson, age 91, of Schoolcraft, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. She was born on May 28, 1935, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond and Ellen (Vaulkner) Meadows.
Jan attended a one-room schoolhouse in Portage, Michigan. At the age of fourteen, she began working at a restaurant in Galesburg, where she met the love of her life, Franz Bresson. After a year of courtship and with a desire to build a life together, the two were united in marriage on April 21, 1950, in Kalamazoo. Together they were blessed with three children, David, Daniel, and Carla. Jan also lovingly embraced her stepchildren, Charles and Luke Ormanvich.
Jan was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in both Schoolcraft and Three Rivers and served on the board at the Three Rivers headquarters. She was also a dedicated member of the Schoolcraft American Legion Post 475. Through her involvement with the Eagles and the Legion, Jan and Franz formed many lifelong friendships that she treasured throughout her life.
Music brought Jan great joy. She was a member of the Primetime Singers Musical Group and enjoyed traveling to area nursing homes to perform for residents, sharing her love of music and bringing smiles to others.
Jan also had a passion for gardening, especially flowers. Bright red geraniums were among her favorites, and she always looked forward to receiving hanging baskets from her grandson that would brighten both her yard and her day.
Above all, Jan was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was known for her determination, her excellent cooking, and her unmistakable personality. Jan liked things done her way, was famously late wherever she went, and never ventured far without a brush close at hand to keep her hair just right.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franz Bresson; her children, David, Daniel, and Carla; her stepchildren, Charles and Luke Ormanvich; her brother, Charles Martens; and her brother-in-law, John Fluty.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her sisters, Jean Stoughton and Lillian Fluty; her sister-in-law, Diana Martens; twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schoolcraft Presbyterian Church or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
In accordance with Jan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Public services will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Schoolcraft Presbyterian Church, 224 E. Cass Street, Schoolcraft, Michigan, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Tom Kragt officiating. Jan will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Franz, at Schoolcraft Cemetery on a date yet to be determined.
Jan will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her fierce love for family, and the warmth, laughter, and determination that filled every chapter of her remarkable life.
