Janice Carolyn Taylor

Janice Carolyn Taylor, 72, of Kalamazoo, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Janice was born October 5, 1950 in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Edwin David and Wilma Evelyn (Miller) Taylor. The Taylors moved to California when Janice was a child, and Janice graduated from Bloomington High School in 1969.

Janice moved back to Arkansas with her parents 1974. While there, she worked at her longest held job at Huttig Schools as the head custodian for 17 years. She and her mother moved to Michigan in 1994 and she moved out on her own in 1996. Janice proudly worked hard her entire adult life and purchased her own home, which was a significant accomplishment in her life. In 2012, she left homeownership and moved into Dillon Hall, a senior apartment community. She loved living an independent lifestyle and the friends that she made at Dillon Hall! She was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 25 years. She made lasting friendships there as well.

Janice was an avid crafter throughout her life, enjoying painting Christmas themed ceramics most of all. She taught Sunday School at every church she attended as an adult and many children learned their Bible stories and characters exceptionally well with her at the helm! She was also extremely partial to Mexican food and Chinese buffets and everyone who knew her, had been to one or both multiple times with her.

Janice is survived by her sisters, including Marian (Vince) Viviano of Springfield, Michigan; her niece, Gina (Ron) Stewart of Richland, Michigan, who she loved as the daughter she never had, and great-niece, Mycah Fischer. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones across the country. Janice was preceded in death by her parents.

Family and friends may gather at her celebration of life service on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 5224 East Main Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Cremation has occurred and a private burial will occur at a later date.
