John Barker

John (Joe) Joseph Barker, 69, of Augusta, MI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 29, 2025, in Kalamazoo, MI.

He was born on October 31, 1956, in Battle Creek, MI to John and Carolyn Barker. Joe attended Pennfield High School and later earned his diploma through Adult Education. He was employed by Grand Trunk Western Railroad from 1977 until his retirement in 1997.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Barker, and his sister, Becky Sherman. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Sharon Barker; his children, John (Samantha) Barker, Timothy Barker (and his special friend, Sally Cole), and Nicole (Jacob) Gatlin, whom he shared with his former wife, Cindy Carter; as well as his bonus son, Ryan (Kristi) Barber. He is also survived by his father, John (Lee) Barker; his sister, Brenda Barker; his mother-and-father-in-law, Robert and Hilda Torres; his sister-in-law, Karen Hurt; and his brother-in-law, Chris (Missie) Jones. In addition, he leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two nieces.

Joe will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love of riding his Harley, and the joy he found spending time at Higgins Lake. In his youth, Joe excelled in baseball - a sport he both loved and had a natural talent for. Later in life, he found peace in the outdoors, especially while fishing, and was a proud Bigfoot enthusiast. He also enjoyed relaxing with classic black-and-white Westerns.

Joe's presence, humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. Although he is deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. In accordance with his wishes, Joe will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
