John Bierema

Plainwell, MI

John Edso Bierema, of Plainwell passed away on September 25, 2024, at Park Village Pines in Kalamazoo, at the age of 94. He resided at Park Village Pines under their great care for the past two years.

Over the years John had served his Lord and Savior as an elder, both as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and evangelism committee member. He worked at Eaton Corporation until the Kalamazoo plant closed and he turned his part time job of farming into a full-time occupation until he was 72 years old. 

He was happiest running his combine and John Deere tractors. He was also known by all who lived in the area for selling sweet corn and gladiolas. He loved listening to hymns and tinkering around his house and barns. 

John was known for his big presence, loud voice, and laughter. He is preceded in death by his wife Dion Bierema, brother Roger Bierema, and sister Geri Mol. 

John is survived by his son, John (Pam) Bierema; and daughter, Karen (Matt) Rizzolo. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 12noon until 1:30pm at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will follow.
