Karen Garner

She was born to Jimmy and Elizabeth (Nichols) Garner on February 1, 1966, in Washington D.C. She attended Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. Karen had a natural gift of helping others. She worked as a nurse and a caregiver in Maryland at Future Care Pine View Rehab Center, Bradford Oaks Nursing Home, Clinton Health Care Center Nursing Home, and Forestville Nursing Home.

Karen's hobbies and favorite things included watching older movies like Dark Shadow, Perry Mason, and Family Feud. She loved crossword puzzles as well as playing checkers, chess, and Uno. When she was more mobile, she loved going to the movies.

Karen could be described as always giving as much as she could.....sometimes more than that. She was stubborn but cared deeply. She had a heart of gold with a mean streak. She always put the well-being of the children above her own.

Karen is survived by her brother Derrick McPhatter; her children Jonas Travanti Garner (wife, Tijana Michelle Smith), Kevin Tyrrell Garner Sr., Lonnice Patricia Pringle, and Sophia Lauren Sheffield. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tyrrell Marquise Garner, Kevin Tyrell Garner Jr, Carii' Marceles Chase, Kionne Christopher Garner, Jayden Tyshaun Garner, Karolyna Zapata, Jonas A.C. Smith, Zayvon Marcellous Pringle, Zyair Marcellous Pringle, Zyon Lavar Ford, and Amiyah Michelle Pringle as well as her nieces and nephews: Devin McPhatter, Dylan Freeman, Dreah Edwards, and Nevaeh Edwards.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Michelle Garner.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Prairie Baptist Church on April 28, 2024, at 11:00 am.
