Kathleen Leone Brogan

Kathleen L. Brogan of Plainwell, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 70. She was born on January 26, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI. The youngest daughter of Bill and Marian (Mason) Whitehead.

She graduated from Plainwell High School in 1970.  Following graduation she met the love of her life, William Patrick Brogan III. On June 9, 1973, they were United in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo.  Settling in Plainwell, together they raised three children together. Jessaca (Mark) of Galesburg, Patrick (Kari) of Onsted and Sean (Jocelyn) of Galesburg. Kathy was a very accomplished artist with a successful career that spanned over 4 decades. She did numerous showings of her work across the state as well as nationwide. Everyone especially looked forward to her yearly private art showing to see her beautiful wildlife paintings and sample her delicious cooking.  A true humanitarian in that she used her artistic success to help not only those in need, but several conservation organizations as well.

Kathy was most happy at home in her kitchen cooking and entertaining family, friends, and her beloved grandchildren. She was the gatherer in the family and brought everyone together for reunions and parties on numerous occasions. She passed her love of art, the outdoors, gardening, cooking and most importantly, God on to her three children and grandchildren.

Kathy was loved by many and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Marian Whitehead. Siblings David, Harvey, Billy, Tissy, Susan, Barbara, Judy and Janet. She is survived by her husband Pat Brogan of Plainwell, her three children and grandchildren Mitchell, Reed, Carley, Brooke, Ruthi, Gavin, Parker, Cole, Mason, Karis and Alex. Her brother, John (Carol) Whitehead of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, and sister Chris (David) Russel of Ferndale, Arkansas. As well as several loving nieces and nephews.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me ..”  Philippians 4:13.

Any donations can be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, 448 N. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.

I have so many wonderful memories living next door to the Brogan family on Baseline Rd. All I can say is never a dull moment as our children played with each other, creating houses out of leaves. Kathy was my mentor for cooking, I always anticipated a great meal when we dined together which included some of Grandma Whitehouse home made bread. These memories are precious to me and my love goes out to Pat and his children.

LOVE. It really is that simple when I think of Kathy or Mom. She loved me, than loved my wife and than loved my kids. My heart breaks to think we will not sit around the kitchen and have some deep talk about God. No more shared celebrations of her and LIly's birthday dinners. No more cookouts around the pool watching my kids play with her grandkids. No more fried chicken and the most amazing cake, plus maybe some cheesy potatoes to take home. No more new art work to fall in love with.

What do I have, over 30 years of fantastic memories. 20-30 priceless paintings boxes and cards to look and an smile at. A man that I call dad that will be able to golf fish or just hang out with. Two brothers and a sister and their familes to watch grow and see Kathy in each one.

Thank you Kathy for being a mom to me and a Grandma to my kids. I will always love you and smile when I think of you. Til I see you in Heaven and can get a great big hug I know you will be watching down on us all laughing crying and some times yelling at us. Thank you, Thank you. THANK YOU!
