Kivan Allen Meyers Sr., age 66, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on December 15, 2025.

Born into the loving family of Earl Jr. and Lulu Meyers, Kivan carried forward the values they instilled in him: hard work, devotion to family, and an appreciation for simple joys. Those qualities shaped the man he became and the life he built.

Kivan was a dedicated, hard-working family man who spent more than 20 years employed by Nazareth College and the Sisters of St. Joseph. He later continued his working years with Sign Art, Wolverine, Parkview, Naylor Landscape, and ProTurf. No matter the job, Kivan took pride in his work and in providing for his family.

While raising his five children, Kivan brought laughter and magic into their lives—quite literally—as a magician and as “Stripes” the Clown. He had a playful spirit and a big heart, and he loved creating memories that made people smile. He enjoyed yard sales and flea markets and had a deep love for the outdoors, especially planting flowers, hunting, fishing, and attending tractor shows.

In partial retirement, Kivan found happiness in coin collecting and spending time with those he loved most. He shared a close companionship with his partner, Karen Tencate, and treasured time with his children and grandchildren. Known for his humor and straightforward way of showing love, he often joked that he would “put a boot in their butt if they weren’t acting right,” a saying that perfectly captured his mix of toughness, care, and affection. Visiting his daughter and grandson in Florida was always a special joy and time he deeply cherished.

Kivan is lovingly remembered by his children, Heather (Ben) Anderson, Kivan Meyers Jr., Steve Meyers, and Doug Meyers; his grandchildren Peyton, Jacob, Amelia, Braeleigh, Art, and Kingston; and by those who shared life alongside him, including his partner, Karen Tencate, and the mother of his children, Judith. He is also survived by his sister, Debra. Kivan was preceded in death by his son, Ben Meyers; his parents, Earl Jr. and Lulu Meyers; and his brothers, Dennis, Terry, and Arthur.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Avink, McCowen, Secord Funeral Homes & Cremation Society, 120 S. Woodhams St., Plainwell, Michigan (269) 685-5881. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Alamo Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Heather Anderson.

Kivan’s legacy lives on through the love of his family, the memories he created, and the laughter he shared. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
