Larry Boelman

Larry H. Boelman passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 4, 2022. He was born June 1, 1943, in Kalamazoo, MI to Jerry and Grace (Bolhuis) Boelman. He grew up in the Oakwood and Portage areas before moving to Mattawan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosi; his children: Machelle Powell and Michael (Tracy) Boelman; his brothers: Ron Boelman and his twin, Garry (Anita) Boelman; his grandchildren: Amanda, Michael, and Sydney, as well as, several nieces, nephews, and a very special Uncle Loren Bolhuis. Larry graduated from Portage High School in 1961. He began his career as a barber. He then spent 25 years as a fireman for The City of Kalamazoo, obtaining the rank of Assistant Chief.  Larry retired as a Lieutenant from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. He took pleasure in woodcarving and creating stained glass. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family; they were his first love. Larry was very outgoing and loved by everyone he met.
