Laverna Grace Anderson, 96, of Schoolcraft, passed away on April 29, 2026 in Schoolcraft, Michigan. Laverna was born March 29, 1930 in Comstock, Michigan to Vernon and Grace Smead.

She met a wonderful man, Arthur Anderson, through mutual friends and hit it off. They dated for a while and were soon married on March 14, 1959.

Laverna was described by her family as feisty, stubborn, tough, helpful, but above all, she was loving. One of her favorite sayings was “How much do I owe ya?" We always told her nothing and she would say “Thank you very much till you’re better paid.”

She enjoyed working in her garden, growing beautiful vegetables. If she wasn't in her garden you might find her tending to her orchids or completing a new puzzle.

Laverna was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Grace Smead; her husband, Arthur Anderson; and her siblings, Leonard Smead, Nelson Smead, Vivian Romnack, Lloyd Smead, Catherine Bolen, Lyle Smead, and Orville Smead.

Laverna is survived by her two children, Bruce (Tammy) Anderson and Gail (Lance) Strome; sister, Joan Breed; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Martin Anderson and spouse; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Avink, McCowen, & Secord Funeral Homes in Vicksburg, 409 South Main Street, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 11am with visitation taking place an hour prior.
