Leslie Eugene Huntington “Luke”, of Vicksburg, MI, slipped away peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Rose Arbor Hospice, at the age of 75, following a short battle with cancer. He was born in Vicksburg, MI on Wednesday, July 23, 1947, to Marion (Babe) and Theresa (Coffinger) Huntington.
In 1967, Leslie graduated from Vicksburg High School. While attending school his senior year, he started working at Arco Rubber Company. Following graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During this time, he was stationed in South Korea, where he drove a 2 ½ ton military beast carrying supplies to build bridges. In 1969, he was honorably discharged from the military. After returning home, he returned to work at Arco where he spent the next 44 years.
Leslie had a passion for hunting and fishing and enjoyed the solitude of the outdoors. This also gave him an opportunity to spend quality time with his family and friends that shared the same passion. As a teenager, he joined the Assembly of God Church in Vicksburg, where he was a proud and active member that enjoyed serving the Lord and those around him. He never hesitated to give his last dollar to the church or someone in need. That’s just the kind of man he was…giving and kind! The second oldest of seven children, Leslie was a devoted family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family during the holidays and all the leftovers that came from the big holiday dinners. Especially the sweet potatoes! He loved to cook and try new kitchen gadgets. Frying fish was one of his favorites. Although he never married or had children of his own, Leslie loved Kwame Hooker, and Glen and Breon Batten as if they were his own sons and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them.
He is survived by his sisters: Marilyn (Ed) Miller, Alice (Michael) Bockstanz, Lorie Overton, and Brenda Piper; brother-in-law: Raymond Weller; nieces: Theresa (John) Cleckner, Shannon (Michael) Lashbrook, Alicia (Ron) Crandall, Michelle (Brian) VanderBor, Sierra (Eric Vance) Piper, Natalie (Jesse) Richards, and Jessica (Hunter) Frantom; nephews: Raymond Weller, David (Brandi Hansen) Huntington, John (Sarah) Overton, Steve Overton, and Mike (Lisa) Overton; as well as many great nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many special friends including Pastor Ed (Candy) Courtney, Angel Jones, Ophelia McShan, Marv Piper, Jim Spicer, Jack Evans, and many more.
He is preceded in passing by his is parents: Marion and Theresa Huntington; brother: David Huntington; sister: Rosemary Weller; baby sisters: Edith and Sharon Huntington; brothers-in-law: John Overton and Robert Piper; sister-in-law; Linda Huntington: nephew; Edwin Miller Jr.; and good friend Jack Whitney.
Leslie gave his heart to Jesus a long time ago and we can rest assured that he is now with the Lord and free of pain. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
