Letha "Lee" M. Evensen, of Vicksburg passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the age of 82. Lee was born on September 8, 1940 at home in Comstock, MI. She was the daughter of Paul C. and Dorothy Emmons, and grew up in Portage, MI. She met the love of her life, Kenneth “Ken” Evensen, as a teen and they married on August 16, 1958, shortly after graduating from Portage High School (now known as Portage Central High School). The wedding was at the home of Ken’s parents, Floyd and Eleanor Braginton. Ken and Lee lived on Long Lake from 1958 until 1991 when they moved to Ewe-Sta-Be-A-Farm in Vicksburg. Lee worked at various local businesses throughout her life including: Bell telephone, Walgreens, Vicksburg Broadcast, and Gwen Sherman. Lee had a servant’s heart volunteering at church, Kids Connection mentoring “little sisters”, teaching quilting and sewing, visiting and reading to senior citizens, and was a Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader. She stopped working to stay home and help raise her six grandbabies until they were all in middle school. There was nothing she loved more than her family and spending time with them.
Lee was faithfully and lovingly cared for every day by her husband of 64 years, Ken; she is also survived by her three daughters: Laura (Bill) Sandahl, Peggy (Todd) LaPorte, Patsy (Jerry) VanSchoick; five grandchildren: Tyler Sandahl, Alex (Courtney) LaPorte, Kelsey (Nick) Allen, Aaron LaPorte, and Mitchell VanSchoick; many loving nieces and nephews, and family friends Chuck and Cathy Emrick, Judy Preston, and the Heath kids.
Lee is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Frances Thornton and Patricia (Bill) MacPherson; infant daughter: Kathy; oldest grandson Taylor VanSchoick; and her friends: Sheila Thompson and Louise Laughlin.
The family would like to especially thank Kayla and Natalie from Centrica Care Navigators for their loving care and assistance they provided Ken with Lee’s care.
