IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois B.
McKenna
February 17, 1926 – December 3, 2025
Mass
Lois B. (Rundel) McKenna was born at home in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1926, the third of five children of Arthur and Lucille Rundel.
Growing up during the Great Depression, she nonetheless remembered a happy childhood and graduated from Western High School in Detroit just as WWII was coming to an end. She worked at Michigan Central Depot until meeting and marrying James P. McKenna in 1948. Together they raised a family of four children: Karen, Jim, Kevin and David, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, eventually settling in Sylvania, Ohio, where Lois lived for over 50 years.
Widowed at age 65, she began volunteering at Flower Hospital, a position she maintained for more than 25 years. She also continued her many activities: bowling, golfing (a hole-in-one at 85!), meeting with various card-playing and Mah Jongg groups, crocheting countless baby blankets and reading, a lifelong love she had held since childhood.
As things began slowing down for her, Lois moved to Kalamazoo, MI, to live near her daughter and managed to settle into her new surroundings in good spirits. She was fortunate in managing to simply “slip away” on December 3, 2025, in peaceful surroundings and with loved ones at her side, the last of her generation on both sides of her family. Her kindness, generosity and quiet ways will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main Street, Sylvania, OH. The family will then proceed to a private ceremony at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, OH.
While at www.amsfuneralhomes.com please take time to sign Lois’ guestbook and share your favorite memory with her family.
The McKenna family is being cared for by the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes and Cremation Society, 5975 Lovers Lane, Portage, MI 49002 (269) 344-5600.
