MARC SKIPPERS

On July 26, 2025 Marc Skippers passed from this life into the Grace and Love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. he was preceded in death by his parents Norm and Betsey Skippers; His sister Suzanne; and his youngest brother Mark Craig.

He is survived by one daughter Kristen (Jason) Stanford, of Vicksburg; One son Neil Skippers, of Vicksburg and grandchildren: Max Stanford, of Vicksburg; Kara Stanford, of Scotts; Ryan Kinberger, of KY; and Jessica Stanford, of KY. He is also survived by one sister Anne (Nickola) Baic, of Boyne City; and one brother Steven Skippers, of Va.

Born January 30, 1946, Marc was a resident of Vicksburg since age 6, having moved from San Francisco, Ca with his mother and siblings to be closer to relatives living in Michigan. As a youngster Marc spent many enjoyable summers with his family at his grandparents’ cottage on the east side of Indian Lake. After becoming an excellent swimmer, he soon found a love of water skiing and became quite adept as the summers advanced. It was rumored that he was once seen weaving back and forth across the ski boat’s wake with his younger brother, Steve, perched precariously on his shoulders, holding on for dear life, laughing all the while; an event which ended in a monstrous spill which neither would soon forget. Although there were fortunately no serious injuries, that spill marked the end of “trick skiing” for the summer!

It was also during these formative years that Marc developed what would become a life-long interest in electronics. Starting with simple motors and crystal radios, his attention soon turned to audio equipment, which led to building stereo amplifiers and receivers from the Heathkit company. Long before the advent of transistors, these kits consisted of vacuum tubes, resistors, capacitors, and printed circuit boards which required significant soldering skills to assemble. Once these skills were mastered, he was unstoppable. It was then commonplace to be confronted with “Victory at Sea” or the “1812 Overture” blaring from huge speakers in his bedroom. Later in life, he dove into the digital world and all things “tech.”

After graduating from Vicksburg High School in 1964, Marc followed his interest in electronics into the field of professional television repair as well as a personal interest in HAM radio. He worked as a repair technician, making house calls throughout Kalamazoo County for several years; at the same time, he spent off-work hours tickling the HAM airwaves using “Meadowlark” as his call sign. Due to failing eyesight (the progression of macular degeneration) he opted to change vocation, joining the custodial staff at Vicksburg High School. He also surrendered his driver’s license and chose a small motor scooter as a viable means of transportation. Heavily decorated with “Harley Davidson” decals, his scooter also proudly boasted a sign stating “1 gallon - two weeks - $3.00”, revealing his witty sense of humor. Marc worked for the school system until his retirement as head custodian in 2011. While there he thoroughly enjoyed interacting with both staff and students, considering each a true blessing, adding significantly to the enrichment of his life.

Marc will be remembered for his love of family, pride in his children, strong work ethic, faithfulness to his friends, and sustaining Christian faith.
