Margaret Adele (Sutcliffe) Haines, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 22, 2025. Margaret was born on November 11, 1930, in Benzonia, MI, the daughter of Wilbur and Willa (Johnston) Sutcliffe. She grew up in northern Michigan and often spoke fondly of her family’s apple and cherry orchard farm in Omena, MI, and her love for swimming in the clear waters of Omena Bay on Lake Michigan.
A 1948 graduate of Northport High School, Margaret pursued her calling to care for others and graduated from the Bronson School of Nursing in 1951 as a Registered Nurse. Later that year, on September 16, 1951, she married the love of her life, Clarence Haines. They shared 64 wonderful years together until Clarence’s passing in 2016.
Family was always at the center of Margaret’s heart. She was a devoted mother to Brenda (James) McCallum and Dwight Haines, a loving grandmother to Nicole (Tim) Wilson and David (Tara) McCallum, and a proud great-grandmother to Nathan (Emily) Wilson, Elijah Wilson, Eric McCallum, Ryan McCallum, and Stella Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and her son Dwight in 2020.
Margaret’s sweet and selfless nature left an impression on everyone she met. She was proper and polite, always stylish, and deeply concerned for the well-being of others. She found joy in reading, music, and service to her community. She sang in the choir at EUB Church in Vicksburg and served as a Brownie Scout leader, sharing her talents and warmth with those around her.
Throughout her career, Margaret cared for countless patients with compassion, working many years at Franklin Memorial Hospital and later at a nursing home, where she provided care for her own mother. She also cherished time spent with her beloved Boston Bull Terriers, Mickey and Max, with Max becoming her loyal companion after Clarence’s passing.
Margaret and Clarence enjoyed traveling and treasured the weeks they spent each year at Redington Beach, Florida, where they made lifelong friends and indulged in fresh seafood by the ocean.
Margaret’s life was marked by grace, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and faith. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, funeral services will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 409 South Main Street, Vicksburg, MI 49097, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
