Margaret McClish

Margaret May McClish, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 at the age of 90. Margaret was born on January 21st, 1930 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was the daughter of Lewis and Helen (Griffin) Crawford. Margaret went through Portage schools and graduated with the Portage High Class of 1948. Margaret was married 60 years to her high school sweetheart Maurice “Maury” McClish. They shared a long and happy marriage together and she delighted in many years of family gatherings at their home on Austin Lake. During their retirement years, Margaret and Maury enjoyed many trips throughout the country in their RV camper, and spent many winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama enjoying the sun, the beach, and their fellow snowbird friends. Margaret also liked to collect cranberry glass, glass paper weights, and Hummel figurines, and had a story for every single one. In recent years, after the passing of her beloved husband, Margaret took comfort in the presence of family and friends, and especially enjoyed going on picnics to the park and visiting with her much loved little dog Bailey. Margaret is survived by her three children: Mike (Doris) McClish, of Vicksburg; Matt McClish, of Vicksburg; Mary (Robert) Ryan, of Delton; five grandchildren: Ben (Lisa) McClish, of Vicksburg; Maria (Tony) Wharton, of Vicksburg; Liam (Margo) McClish, of TN; Thomas McClish, of IN; and Michelle McClish, of IL; and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother: Max Crawford, of KY. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; brother, David Crawford; and sister, Louise Heller. Margaret will be remembered as a loving, social, and caring person. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who always gave freely of her time and love to family and friends. In particular she was the quintessential doting grandmother, always ready to smother her grandkids and great-grandkids with hugs, and was a constant and beaming presence at concerts, recitals, and graduations. She will be fiercely missed but not forgotten. A memorial service for Margaret will be held at a later date, but in the meantime please feel free to visit her webpage at www.mccowensecord.com to light a candle or leave a memory. The McClish family is being cared for by the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, Rupert-Durham Chapel, 409 South Main Street Vicksburg, MI, 49097.

Mary, I am sorry to hear of your moms passing. You always spoke so kindly of her, and I found her delightful the times I came to visit. I know we have lost touch over the years, but know you are in my thoughts, and especially as you and your family adjust to not having your mom around. God bless. Debi Neddo Franklin

I always loved coming to your house. It was filled with the smell of good food, the smiles of family, and a teddy bear hug from you! I will always remember your laughter and the pure joy you radiated when you had your family around you with kids running in and out in wet bathing suits and everyone squeezing in around the table. And even last year when I would visit you, you were still the welcoming hostess, wanting to show me the photos on the wall of your grands and great-grands, with your beaming smile as you mentioned each one and lovingly touched the frames. Thank you for the joy! - Colleen Wilson

I'll always cherish the many times we all had at the family get togethers at the lake. It was great to catch up with everyone and watch the kids play and enjoy a fun day at the lake. Over the last few years mom enjoyed the weekend cookouts at the local park on the lake.
