Margot Virginia Shick, of Vicksburg passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the age of 90. She was born on October 31, 1934, in Kalamazoo. She was the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Nichols) Gilding. She is leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. A cherished member of the Vicksburg community, Margot was known not only for her unwavering spirit and faith but also for her contributions to those around her.

For over 50 years, Margot owned and operated Margot's Beauty Shop in Vicksburg. Her beauty shop was not just a place for hair and beauty; it became a haven of friendship and warmth where countless individuals came together to share stories, laughter, and life experiences. Margot's meticulous attention to detail and her generous heart endeared her to her clients, who often considered her not just their beautician but a confidante and friend.

In addition to her work in beauty, Margot served as the organist for St. Edward's Catholic Church, now known as St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, for over 45 years. Margot's commitment to her church extended beyond her music; she was actively involved in the church's HALO group, and was someone behind the scenes in helping the church with many activities.

Margot's love story began during her time at Vicksburg Community Schools, where she graduated with the Class of 1952. It was there that she met Evan Shick, the love of her life. After years of friendship, they blossomed into high school sweethearts and were united in marriage on April 28, 1953. Together, they shared a deep bond that was evident in their companionship. Their fond memories included traveling to beautiful destinations in Arizona and Florida, where they created lasting moments that would be cherished forever.

Beyond her professional achievements, Margot was also an avid country tole painter and gardener, finding joy in creating and nurturing beauty in her surroundings. She carried her artistic touch into every aspect of her life, leaving a mark that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Margot is remembered as a woman of exceptional character, described by those who loved her as spiritual, faithful, precise, and remarkably generous. She poured her efforts into her family, and she was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, celebrating each accomplishment with unyielding support and encouragement.

Margot Virginia Shick leaves behind a profound legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. As we remember this remarkable woman, let us celebrate her life filled with love, devotion, and an undying spirit that touched the lives of many.

Margot was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Evan; son: E.J; and two siblings: Mary Heinrick and Peter Gilding.

She is survived by her daughter: Suellen (Dave) Lane, of Vicksburg; four grandchildren: David (Jennifer) Lane, of Portage; Brendan (Samantha) Lane, of Vicksburg; Christopher (Katie) Lane, of Mattawan; and Evan Lane, of Portage; seven great grandchildren: Connor, Caden, Mason, Madi, Cora, Vivi, and Jaxxson. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law: Ronald and Gwen Shick; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 29th, at 11am with Monsignor Thomas Martin and Father Christopher Ankley co-celebrating. Prior to mass the family will receive friends at the church from 10am until the time of the service. A rosary will be held at the church beginning at 9:45am. Burial of her ashes will be held at Vicksburg Cemetery.
