IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Steven
Lettow
April 8, 1952 – December 17, 2025
Mark Steven Lettow, of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 73. He was the eldest of three sons born on April 8, 1952, in Kalamazoo to Max and Mary (Meisling) Lettow. He battled heroically against Alzheimer's disease, and he faced it with remarkable dignity for over eight years.
He was a graduate of Loy Norrix High School, with the Class of 1970. He then went to Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC). His athletics shone brightly during his time as a standout baseball player, at both schools. He even earned himself an invitation to the Montreal Expos minor league spring training in West Palm Beach, FL.
He would later marry Debbra Butler Lettow from his graduating class at Loy Norrix. Debbie felt his love and was very thankful for the time they spent together. He was always so loving and kind to her and the entire family.
Mark's career was marked by his dedication to customer service, spending many years as a representative for EPC in Kalamazoo, MI. He later shared his love for nature and landscaping while working at Ken's Greenhouse, where he found joy in nurturing plants and beautifying outdoor spaces.
Mark’s warm and loving nature endeared him to many. He had a unique gift for entertaining others, famously delighting friends and family with his rendition of Donald Duck's voice. A devoted Little League coach for his sons, he exemplified what it meant to be a father and role model, shaping them into principled men. His passion for music, particularly the Beach Boys and Beatles, often filled the spaces around him with joy.
In his leisure time, Mark enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and fishing, activities that brought him happiness and most of all spending time with his family. Those fortunate enough to know him cherished his romantic spirit, kindness, and the quiet humor that made his company a pleasure.
Mark Steven Lettow leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He will be sorely missed yet warmly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Max and Mary Lettow; brother Randy Lettow; and mother-in-law: Marilyn Butler and father-in-law: Roy Butler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years: Debbie; two sons: Jamie (Heather) Lettow, of Paw Paw; Shawn (Klarice) Lettow, of Kalamazoo; two stepchildren: Wendy (Steve Simonds) Schutz, of Kalamazoo; Matthew (Nikki) Piper, of GA; six grandchildren: Charlotte, Sadie, Hadleigh, Simon, Shea and Kellan. He is also survived by his brother: Gary (Kathy) Lettow, of Schoolcraft; and his sister-in-law: Cheryl Lettow, of Portage and his previous wife: Barb Lettow, of Kalamazoo; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. They will forever carry his light and love in their hearts. Though Alzheimer’s may have dimmed the details it will never erase the love.
Also, special thanks to Epic Care Homes, PACE and all of our friends and extended family for the love and support.
Mark has been cremated and a memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
