Mary Lou was born to Maynard and Fern (Hess) Fellows on October 28, 1928 on their farm in Prairie Ronde Township. She attended the Clark country school and graduated from Mattawan High School. She attended Parsons Business School and also Western Michigan University while she worked there. In 1959 she started working as a secretary in the Kalamazoo Public School Administration Building, where she continued for many years. In June of 1951 she was united in marriage to Vern L. Mason. Their marriage produced three daughters: Linda (Steve) Orosz, Julie (Ken) Fisher, and Connie (Rich) Reese. Vern and Mary Lou spent 33 summers at their Gun Lake home before moving back to Kalamazoo permanently. They also spent 19 winters in Florida. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her father in 1943, her mother in 1986, and her brother Gerald in 2012. She leaves behind her husband and three daughters, her grandchildren Lisa Mason, Casey Fisher, Jessica (Fisher) Grant, Natalie (Orosz) Bennett, and Stacy (Orosz) Davis, and four great-grandchildren. Mary Lou loved her flowers, any kind of puzzle, her dogs and cats, and all birds and animals. She and Vern were members of the Oakwood United Methodist Church until it closed. Donations may be made to Kindred Hospice, 1911 W. Center Ave. Suite 1, Portage, MI 49024. A memorial may take place at a later date.
