Matthew Sides

Matthew Sides of Plainwell, MI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, in Fort Wayne, IN at the age of 55. He was born on September 3, 1966, in Paw Paw, MI the son of Glenn and Dixie (Clayola) Sides. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1985. Matthew met the love of his life: Robin Haas in fourth grade when she beat him at hoop-shoot, they have been best friends since. The two were inseparable and were joined in holy matrimony on August 23, 1989 at Crane Park in Kalamazoo, MI. Together they started a family and raised five children. Matthew loved his fur baby: Meeka, and she was often referred to as the sixth child. Matthew was an avid cyclist and loved to go on long rides everyday with Robin. They would ride locally, in Colorado, and in the upper regions of Michigan. He loved to go camping with his family every summer and would plan long extravagant camping trips filled with secret locations and hole in the wall restaurants. Matthew had a generous spirit and was always the first person to lend assistance to anyone in need. More than anything Matthew loved his family, he was a world class father and grandfather and will be remembered as the best dad in the world. He is preceded in his passing by his daughter: Grace Sides and his grandparents: Vonnie and Willis Sides and Marilyn Lamb. Left to cherish Matthew’s loving memory is his wife of 32 years: Robin (Haas) Sides; children: Kyle, Olivia, Molly, and Katherine; grandchildren: Aubrey, Lillian, Ava, Jackson, and Clara; in-laws: Maryesther and Jerry, Theodore, Wendy, Nancy, Jarilyn, and Heidi; siblings: Chad, Shelly, Dustin, Garrett, and Cooper; and aunts: Paula, Georgia, and Dawn. In accordance with Matthew’s wishes a public service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, November 8, 2021, at McCowen Secord Family Funeral Homes Marshall-Gren Chapel, 120 S. Woodhams St, Plainwell, MI 49080. Interment will be held at West Oshtemo Cemetery following the service. Memorials made in Matthew’s memory may be directed to the family ℅ Robin Sides.
