Michael J. Peters, age 101, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Michael was born on February 11, 1925, to Michael & Dena (Westveer) Peters.

He attended Kalamazoo Central high school, graduating in 1943. After graduation, he joined the Navy where he served for three years. During his service, he received the purple heart. Michael met Mary on a double date right after he returned from the Navy. They were at a dance, but they didn’t hit it off. But he was persistent, and he won her over. They were married on April 26, 1947.

Michael worked at Upjohn company all his career. He was also a long-time proud member of the Kalamazoo Male Chorus.

Michael is survived by his children: Linda Peters, David (Laurie) Peters; four grandchildren: Melissa Reyes, Sarah (Jereme) Smith, Justin (Robyn) Peters and Michael (Jayme) Peters; eight great grandchildren: Gizelle Enriquez, Bella Enriquez, Addy Smith, Kinsley Smith, Hadley Smith, Grace Peters, Archer Peters and Rickey Peters as well as very special friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 76 years, Mary Jane; and his siblings.

Following his wishes, cremation took place and a private graveside service was held.
