Milton Lewis Sutter

January 15, 1943 - February 13, 2026

Milton Lewis Sutter, 83, of Portage passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026. He was born on January 15, 1943, in Traverse City, Michigan, the son of Lowell and Eloise (Beckwith) Sutter.

Milt grew up in Traverse City surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was considered the laid back, cool cousin that others could count on for a great story and an infectious laugh. He often spent time with cousins playing games or riding bikes. He also liked spending time with his older brother, Irv. Milt moved to Kalamazoo to attend Western Michigan University. After graduation, he began to work for Upjohn as an information systems analyst. He worked there through many transitions of the company before retiring.

During his time at Upjohn, he met Dorothy McCash on a ski weekend with friends. After a whirlwind relationship, the two were married in 1967. Their first child, Deborah, was born in 1972. Unfortunately, she did not survive. Two years later, on February 1, 1974, they welcomed their son Tim. Their daughter, Gayle, arrived on December 18, 1976. During these years, the family vacationed with close friends, went camping, and attended family reunions every summer in Traverse City where those close cousin relationships developed across generations. Milt and Dottie continued their love of skiing and went on yearly trips to Aspen. In their retirement, Milt and Dottie went with close friends on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Egypt and Morocco. In his free time, Milt enjoyed tinkering in the yard and chatting with neighbors. He was also known as the go-to guy for any tech problem, helping out anyone who asked.

Milton is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his brother, Irv; his daughter, Deborah; his parents; and several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Milton is survived by his children, Timothy Sutter and Gayle (Tommy) Moise; grandchildren, Brighton Halferty and Jack Moise; a niece and several nephews; and many cousins.

In accordance with Milt's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will occur on a future date.
