Monica Hughes

April 11, 1942 — November 25, 2024

Portage, MI

Monica Hughes passed away on November 25th, 2024. Monica was born on April 11th, 1942, in Chicago, IL to Anne and John Mihalo and had one younger sister, Johnetta, who preceded her in death. Monica graduated from George Rogers Clark Highschool in 1960 and then attended Indiana State College in Terra Haute, Indiana. She married Robert Hughes, who she went to her senior prom with in 1964 and worked at Indiana University while Bob was getting his MBA.

Monica and Bob had two daughters, Lynn married to Troy Blake and Debra married to Matt Swope and five grandchildren: Andrew married to Kate Vroman; James Vroman, Amanda married to Jack Levy; Nicholas married to Olivia Swope and Hunter Blake and two great grandchildren: Mason Vroman and Emma Vroman. Monica loved and cherished them all and loved spending time and doing things with them.

Monica's loved to play tennis and later in life took up golf which she lived to play socially. Family was always the center of her focus and attention, and she was a very warm and loving person.

Monica and Bob returned to Naples Florida in 2001 and really enjoyed their active life there, but Monica always cherished the family visits, and loved being with the grandkids. In 2020 Monica and Bob bought a home back in Portage, MI so they could spend summers with their family.

Monica's was the love of Bob's life, a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed but never forgotten.

Monica has been cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.
