Norine Mae Smith passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on September 9, 1940, in Kalamazoo, MI. Norine was the daughter of LeRoy and Marion (Duryea) Smith. She was a cherished member of her community and family. She dedicated her years to nurturing those around her.
Norine's educational journey began in the Portage public schools. Her focus was always her family. Although for a period of time she was a school bus driver for Delton and Kalamazoo Public Schools, where she played an integral role in the daily lives of countless children.
Norine relished the simple joys of life. She found great passion for clothes shopping, and as well in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She also was known for her fantastic garden. In addition to her crafts, she had a special fondness for watching Disney movies. Embracing technology, she enjoyed connecting with long-lost friends through social media.
On February 5, 1972, Norine married Larry Smith. Together with she and Larry, cherished their winters spent near the Tampa area of Florida, embracing the warmth of the sun while creating beautiful memories together. Before they wintered in Florida though, they traveled the world together, as well as all the states besides Alaska and Hawaii.
Her proudest accomplishments included her deep and enduring marriage to Larry and the joy she derived from being surrounded by their children and grandchildren. They were the center of her universe, and she fostered a family atmosphere filled with love and pride.
Norine Mae Smith will be remembered not only for her contributions as a devoted bus driver and craftsman but also for the love she showered upon her family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those she treasured most.

Norine is survived by her three sons: Michael Smith, of Wayland; Mark Smith, of Kalamazoo; and Derek (Connie) Smith, of Kalamazoo. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Smith, of Battle Creek; Jennifer Smith, of Kalamazoo; and Tom (Laura) Keelan, of Delton; two great granddaughters: Raven and Dana; brother and sisters-in-law: Donald, Marcie, Carol, Linda and Kelly as well as several nieces and nephews.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
