Owen Junior Mendham

Owen "Jim" Mendham, of Newaygo, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the age of 98. Owen was born on October 20, 1922 in Elkhart, Indiana. He was the son of Owen and Maude (Stone) Mendham. He was wed to Arliss J. Alman on February 21, 1943 in Elkhart, IN and together they raised James, Barbara, Bonnie, Nancy and Jeff. Owen worked at Allied Paper in Kalamazoo for a number of years. He served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Livermore 429. Owen and Arliss built the West Lake Drive In in 1962 and ran it until retirement in 1989. After retirement they moved to Newaygo and the family took over the business and ran it successfully. The family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate Jim’s life at a later date. West Lake Drive inn was where I had my first job. Thank you uncle Jim and Aunt Arliss for giving so many young gals their first jobs.

Uncle Jim was one of a kind like most Mendham men The last gathering we had he & my Dad stood around telling each other stories and laughing. Love you Uncle Jim you will be missed.
