Phyllis Wesler Long Hicks passed away in the late evening of August 14, 2023, during a short stay at Borgess Hospital. She was 103 years old.
Phyllis was born to Jacob and Gladys Wesler at the family farmhouse in Pine Grove Township, Michigan on January 12, 1920. Phyllis married Elbert (Bert) Long in 1939 and together they had three children. She worked as a dental assistant for thirty years with Dr. Ward Fountain and Dr. Eldon Bradham and was widowed in 1981. Phyllis married her second husband, Stanley (Pat) Hicks, in 1985.
Phyllis sparkled on the dance floor and was well known for her charm, style and zest for life. Phyllis and Bert built their dream house on Lake Doster in 1964 and she took great pride in living independently in this home right up to her death. She was an active member of the Lake Doster community and was well supported by the kindness and affection of neighbors.
Phyllis is survived by her three children: Carol Harsch, Pamela Boudreau and Jim Long; seven grandchildren: Christopher Harsch, Kevin Harsch, Amanda Zehnder, Bryant Long, Jennifer Temur, Adam Boudreau and Molly Gartland; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Phyllis will be held at Heritage Center, Comfort Inn, 622 W Allegan St., Plainwell, MI on Saturday, October 14, 2 to 4pm with an open reception followed by a private celebration after 4pm for family members.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Paralyzed Veterans of America, St. Judes Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
